In honor of the Potty Dance book launch, we are offering 1 FREE flattenme book to each person with a winning potty training tip.
UPDATE: Thanks all for participating! Some wonderful suggestions. Congratulations to our winners - Becky, Cindy, Jeff, Sarah and Victoria.
If you’re looking for potty training tips check out the comments below for nuggets of wisdom.
Just in case you got here randomly and have no idea about flattenme (what, do you hide under a rock?) — we make crazy great, award winning personalized storybooks. Swing by our website www.flattenme.com and check it out. Great idea for holiday gifts!
Here’s the skinny on the contest - post a comment here with your best tip. 1 tip per person so make it your best. The top 5 tips will be used in the back of the Potty Dance book. Contest runs until Nov 30, 2007.
In order to post a comment you’ll need to enter your e-mail address. We’ll use that to e-mail you a gift certificate if your tip wins. We’ll post the winners on this blog and my kids will throw a potty party in your name. Lots o’ candy all around.
May the Potty forces be with you.
Not-so-legal mumbo jumbo: No grumbling allowed about who wins. No fighting about whose idea it really was. If the same idea gets submitted more than once, we will take the first one that is presented in a coherent way. If you submit more than 1 tip, we will pretend we didn’t see the rest of your note past tip #1. Once you fork over a tip, it’s ours to use without paying you a dime. If you babble, you will be disqualified.

Our company is filled with a bunch of photo junkies. We LOVE taking pictures. I just got done speaking with a writer from the Palo Alto Weekly who is writing an article about us and I was telling him that we shot over 4,000 photos to produce the Tuesday Mushroom King.
For this book, our team of photographers shot scenery and children models in Silicon Valley, Rhode Island and Copenhagen. From these photos our amazing digital artist - Gale Franey - curated the collection and weaved them into a visually stunning fairytale.
Someday I want to make a photo album for myself of all the “out takes”. These are the humorous blooper shots you get when you try to photograph unpredictable kids.
One scene in the book calls for a wood sprite flying through the air. The looks you get from a 6 year old dangling a couple of feet above the ground while fully harnessed and tethered in rock climbing gear will forever bring a smile to my face…

Ok, I admit to being quiet for awhile now. I’ve been heads down to get our latest book Here There Be Pirates out the door. I love this storyline. Very funny. Anyway, it launches as of today. Yet another milestone for team flattenme.
I feel like these books are like my children. I can’t pick a favorite. Some days they behave well and I love them. And others I am ready to chuck them all out the door.

So you are wondering…where in the world did this idea come from? (I know that was percolating in your head. I just know it!)
All stories have a beginning. This is ours…
Not long ago, my daughter was caught on film eating a gobstopper – 15 photos taken over 24 minutes and 10 seconds. The photos were arranged in a book by her dad and given to her as a special gift. It was love at first sight. She slept with it, ate with it, took it on road trips. While she was wildly enthusiastic about her very own storybook, my husband was not wildly enthusiastic about creating another one. But we have three more boys who wanted their own book as well.
They say that great new ideas most often come from just living life. Hmmmm… At flattenme, we seek to create truly unique and delightful personalized books that can be created in minutes. We believe that our books are quite possibly the most magical personalized storybooks on the face of the planet. We hope you do too.
But just creating fabulous books is not enough. We aspire to give the gift that keeps on giving. Not only does a personalized book encourage reluctant readers to form reading habits that last a lifetime, but by giving a portion of our profits to literacy causes, we are able to provide books and help build libraries in undeserved areas.
So check us out: www.flattenme.com!

Welcome to the wide, wide world of my blog. I’m Margo MacDonald Redfern, founder of flattenme. The rumors are true — yes, I also have 4 kids, an 85 pound hairball of a dog, and a fabulous husband. So I am a little busy. Just a little.
After almost exactly one year from conceiving this idea, flattenme launched today. It’s a huge milestone for us. But now on to my post-launch list. It’s long and it’s scaring me.
Thanks for visiting!
